So. Cis wlw, especially cis lesbians, that consider yourselves allies to trans women.

I’ve noticed it’s becoming more popular lately to see cis lesbians putting “twefs not welcome” or something similar on their blog. And this is good, in principle. It lets us know at a glance because the blue hellscroll is infested with twefs. Since tumblr staff has committed themselves to pay lip service to the trans community without doing anything about the hate groups using it as another method to gather and target us…well, it helps to have an at-a-glance way of knowing if we should avoid you or not. Saves us all some time and headache.

But it’s not enough to just put the words there.

Just putting the words there doesn’t make your blog a safe place for trans women to go. And if you’re not committed to being aware of transmisogyny and avoiding transmisogynistic and cissexist content, you are potentially making the situation worse off than if you’d never put that label there. Trans women may look at your content expecting it to be safe, and it’s always worse to encounter that shit in places where you’re not expecting it.

If you write or reblog jokes/memes that boil down to how much lesbians all hate penis rather than…you know…hating men? You’re contributing to twef ideology. Your blog is not safe for trans women.

If you write or reblog shit that equates vagina with woman, you are contributing to twef ideology. Your blog is not safe for trans women. (And before anyone gets this twisted: Things like body positivity, discussion of health concerns, reproductive rights, etc. are all great things. It’s only a problem when it defines a vagina as the end-all, be-all of being a woman, and/or suggests that all women have a vagina.)

If you think that any trans woman being an asshole is an excuse to misgender her, deadname her, or otherwise disrespect her identity rather than her actions, you are contributing to twef ideology. Your blog is not safe for trans women.

If you write or reblog shit that says things like “if I JUST had a penis, I’d have more privilege / have access to better jobs / more income / etc.”, you are contributing to twef ideology. It’s “if I was a man”. That’s what you mean. If you were a fucking man. Because if you were just a woman with a penis? Statistically? You’d have a harder time even finding a job at all, you’d be at greater risk of violence, etc. Your life would not be improved in terms of privilege. If you promote that idea, your blog is not safe for trans women.

If all it takes is a transmisogynist to be hot enough for you to start stanning for them, your blog sure as fuck isn’t safe for trans women.

If you write or reblog shit that pretends that transmisogyny is contained within just a tiny few twefs, if you’re going to ignore the long ugly history of many cis lesbian communities that threw trans women to the wolves and harbored people who were getting us killed, or pretend that this is all ancient history and a lot of areas still don’t have serious issues with treating trans women like shit? You’re shitting on the experiences of trans women who lived with the contrary reality in the past and/or are living with the contrary reality right now. Your blog. Is not. A safe place. For trans women.

There’s more shit than this, but that’s a short list of stuff I’ve had to unfollow supposedly allied cis women for over just the past month. I’ve got too much shit in my life right now to be smacked upside the head with this stuff while I’m trying to relax and look at funny shit and be Overwatch trash or whatever I’m doing right now, uncritically reblogged from people who claimed that they were good with trans women.

Sort your shit out or don’t put the gods damned description line there. It lures trans women into unsafe spaces.
