The Tiburones (from the Spanish word “ tiburón ” which means shark) are said to be flying sharks, with razor sharp teeth, crushing jaws, and able to circle their prey from the air. In Bicol, these creatures are known as Pating na Pakpakan (rough translation is “winged shark”). In the Ibalon epic, they were tamed by the warrior-hero Handyong.
